This shot shows how they
fixed things back in the day. The base was broken, likely by an explosion
from within, so the oldtimers put some curved steel plates over the base,
and bolted them on. We thought it would be a shame to mess with there
work so we left it as we found it, plates intact. The oilers have
been placed on the main bearing caps to make sure that they fit, and everything
else looks to be ready for final assembly. The second shot shows
that the oilers have lined up properly, and the paint still doesn't match
but it looks close. The air intake still has to be piped into the
base, but other than that we're ready to finish the job.
