Our Simplex engine came out of the mountains of West Virginia. Our friend Chester found it and arranged the sale for us. It is a 15 Hp single valve model, serial #228. As legend has it (Stooge #1 was in school and not allowed to go on this mission) the engine was almost half a mile from the road. It would also require the use of a log skidder to get it out.
These pictures are from the retrieval and restoration:
A Long Walk - Ed making sure there aren't any more deals in the shed.
Looks Like A Project - This one could take a while.
Some Heavy Lifting - The clyinder and head get removed.
Progress - Soon the Simplex can go back up the mountain.
Complications - Even after losing some parts this engine is still heavy!!
Rolling Along - Still on the upward slope, but progressing nicely.
The End Is Near - Almost out of the woods, literally.
Loading Up - If the guys keep working they'll get supper before dark.
Ready To Go - Just a few more minutes and they can head home.
Repairs - A look at the crank and the repairs it needed.
More Repairs - The cylinder section.
